The privilege of searching His hidden treasures (Luke 8: 16-18)

Reading Luke 8: 16-18:

“No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him.”

Reading the Writer's eyes:

It’s the glory of God to conceal a matter, to search out a matter is the glory of kings. (proverbs 25:2)

I know the common explanation of these verses, especially taken from the perspective and context of Matthew, that we are the salt and the light of this world. But I think every part of the Bible has at least two or three different explanations, those are different roads that lead to the same God. I don’t know if the following is the real meaning of these verses, but as long as it gets me and you closer to God, it’s good.

What if the lamp is the Word of God with all its mysteries? Than ‘nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open” is not (only) a warning, but a beautiful promise! God’s Word is a light upon my path, the lamp before my feet (psalm 119: 105). Psalm 119-130 saysThe unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.”

In the Old Testament people were very aware of the mysteries God has hidden and the privilege to unfold them (see proverbs 25:2). It’s like God is hiding a surprise for us, so we can enjoy and get to know Him better as we are searching for it. And now, God has given us the Holy Spirit to us as kings and queens of Him, so we can search out His words. With the Holy Spirit unfolding the Living Word, we have the promise that nothing hidden will be not known. We have the privilege to not only search out Gods hidden treasures in the Living Word, but with the Holy Spirit also finding those treasures!

The word lamp in Greek means an oil-fed lamp. The light of the revelation of the Living Word will only shine when the oil of the Holy Spirit fuels it. We can’t receive life-changing revelations by reasoning, we only receive those through the touch and help of the Holy Spirit. We’re dependent on Him in everything, also in reading in His Word. We have to carefully listen to His directions.
